The First Column is a list of sites which we have selected in order to show whether our connection to The Internet is functional, and at what speed it is performing. This screen refreshes every 15 seconds.
n.nnn ms is the number of milliseconds (one thousandth of a second) it takes for a signal from our main server to reach the host and come back. Any time under 50 milliseconds is very fast. Any time under 100 ms is fast. Any time over 200 ms is slow.
The number of hops is about how many routers the packet goes through on the way back from the remote system.
